  • To familiarize themselves with our studio glazes and glazing processes, this class is mandatory for beginner potters that have not taken a 4-week course at ACH. It's also open to all potters wanting to learn about or need a refresher on the glazing process. If you have little to no glazing experience, or if you continue to face glazing challenges like running, this class is perfect for you!

Please note, this 18+ class is designed to review the basic processes of glazing, not the in-depth chemistry + materials of glazes.

In this 2-hour class, we'll review:

    • The purpose of glazing + how it works
    • Importance of properly bisqued pieces
    • Test tiles + how to develop a testing process
    • The purpose of resists + how to use them
    • Glazing challenges + how to avoid issues during the glaze firing
    • Glazing demo + practice
      • Practice participation not mandatory, but to participate in the activity portion of class, please bring at least 1 bisqued pot

    Registration for this course includes:

    • Glaze + firing costs for up to 3 wares (wares not included; student must bring bisqueware if they want to glaze pieces)
    • Use of class brushes + community glazing tools

In preparation for this class, please:

    • Wear clothes you don't mind getting dirty
    • Ensure you wear short sleeves or sleeves that can easily tuck back and not get in the way
    • Bring bisqueware if you would like to participate in the practice / activity portion of class (not mandatory)

    Upon course completion:

    • Finished pieces will be available for pick up during Business Hours 2 weeks from class and will be held for 4 weeks.
      • You will receive an email from the Studio Manager when pots are ready for pick up
      • Abandoned works will be discarded due to limited storage space. Thanks for understanding!
    • Business Hours:
      • Thursday: 1pm - 6pm
      • Friday to Monday: 10am - 6pm

All students must sign a Waiver / Code of Conduct Agreement before the start of class.

  • We require at least 2 students to run a class; refunds will be issued if we must cancel due to low registration.

Registration fees (minus service charges) are 100% refundable if registration is canceled 10 days ahead of class start date.

    • For example, if class starts on the 15th, one must cancel no later than the 5th to receive 100% refund.

50% refund (minus service charges) if canceled 5 days ahead of class start date.

    • For example, if class starts on the 15th, one must cancel no later than the 10th to receive 50% refund.

Non-refundable within 5 days of class, however, registration is transferable once to another person prior to class start date.

    • For example, if class starts on the 15th and it's now the 12th and you can no longer attend, you may transfer your registration to another person. Please email the Studio Manager (info@ashlandclayhouse.com) to coordinate.

Great combo of entertainment and information, Rica is awesome! (don’t forget to bring a bisque-fired piece to glaze)
