Flecks + Specks Colored Grog - Dino Egg, 1/4#
Grog is made from fired clay that is crushed before reintroducing it back into clay. Grog acts as a temper, which can help reduce shrinkage and cracking in clay.
Flecks and Specks grog is made from colored clay that is fired, crushed, and separated by size. Besides adding strength to the clay like traditional grogs, our grog adds texture and color to the clay. Adding grog is an easy way to personalize ceramic wares.
GROG SIZES
- S Grog (40 mesh) - S Grog is like a fine sand, and adds smaller specks to the clay. It can easily be smoothed and refined.
- M Grog (30 mesh) - M grog is very similar in size to play sand in a sandbox. M Grog is forgiving for throwing, trimming, and staying suspended in casting slips.
- L Grog (20 mesh) - Use L Grog for vibrant effects in hand-building and wheel-throwing. L Grog will create smaller pits when throwing and trimming. Soft clay is recommended for throwing and trimming L Grog.
- XL Grog (10 mesh) - Use XL grog when you want a lot of “tooth” in the clay, and want a surface that is textured (imagine a colorful Shigaraki ware!) The 10 mesh grog will be bold, and will catch in trimming tools, creating unexpected and raw surfaces. Throwing with XL Grog feels like throwing with clay with small rocks in it. Soft clay is recommended for throwing and trimming with XL Grog, and will be easier on your hands!
