10/3: Cone 6 Glazing Lecture / Discussion with John Britt - 9:00am to 5:00pm
In this workshop, renowned potter John Britt will present an overview of ceramic glazes with an emphasis on mid-range (cone 6) firing. While this class is intended for beginners to intermediate potters, it's open to all skill levels.
Reviewing glaze classifications of glazes, like ash, celadon, temmoku, etc., John will explain the chemistry and function of each glaze type, methods for achieving desired surfaces, strategies for adjusting glaze recipes and approaches to finding or developing new glazes.
Additionally, John will review cones, kilns, firing dynamics and the application of these principles to a variety of firing schedules.
Selected glazes from his book, The Complete Guide to Mid-Range Glazes: Glazing and Firing at Cone 4–7, will be examined in greater depth than in the published text.
Whether you’re ready to start developing your own mid-range glazes or simply curious about the glaze world, this workshop will give you the tools, knowledge and confidence to start exploring glazes!
